Roc’s house

Photographs taken for NeuronaLab. This is a housing project in the town of Prat de Llobregat, where the use was changed from warehouse to single-family house.

Building between party walls functionally and climatically adapted to meet the new needs of a family life, respecting the environment and promoting the neighborhood relationship. The concept of the project arises from the section. With the simple gesture of lengthening one of the roof skirts, at the point of the ridge, a horizontal skylight is generated that allows the sun to enter in winter and the cross ventilation so beneficial to achieve a good indoor environment. Great importance is given to the transition spaces between public and private and between the interior of the house and the exterior of the courtyard.

The project is approached from a deep analysis of the family’s lifestyle, analyzing their needs and daily habits in the domestic space. Their style of upbringing is respected, so that their two-year-old son has the autonomy to have his utensils, toys and clothes within his reach. In this regard, details such as the double height of the railing handrail and the handles of your cabinets are contemplated. Also being considered is the possibility of having guests at home in an upper loft yet to be defined. Currently, the protagonists of the house are a couple with a 2 year old child who intends to expand the family. That is why the areas where they are clear about what kind of activities they are going to do are equipped: rest, play, cook, eat. But the house allows a degree of indefinition in spaces such as the attic, the patio shed and even the area before the entrance because what really offers flexibility in a house are not the movable partitions or transformable furniture, but precisely the creation of rooms without a defined use. The passage of time and its inhabitants will tell.
